5 Reasons to attend a Career Fair

Landing a job is never an easy task, especially when you have to meet your future employers up close and personal.

5 Reasons to attend a Career Fair

This may seem like a horrifyingly daunting task, but attending a job fair actually gives you a lot more chances to find out what you really want to do in life, and at the same time, gives you a chance to make an impression (considering the countless resumes the company probably has to sieve through).

Here are some simple reasons why attending a career fair is so important and how you could benefit from it:

  1. Career Exploration

If you are at a juncture where you are still unsure of what you want in life, then attending a Career Fair might just be the thing for you. Never underestimate the power of a job fair, as you will get to understand more about the different jobs that interest you, or even jobs you never knew/considered before. You can find out the skills you require, to enter a certain industry, or maybe even the different occupations in each of these industries. Sometimes, even an internship may offer you that stepping stone to the job position you’ve always wanted.

  1. Networking

Not only can you meet with employers, you will get to meet like-minded job seekers as well. From here, you might just get to know a few more job opportunities lying around that will interest you. With more connections, you are bound to find a job you will end up liking.

Even if you do not end up getting hired, be sure to know that you have made an impression with that company.

  1. Identifying what Employers want

Even companies which require online applications would appear at the job fair. Why is this so? The job fair is the time the employers get to meet their potential hires. Also, this is the time for you to ask the employers what they look for in an online application/resume. For example, you might want to enquire if the company accepts someone with more experience, rather than having a qualification (e.g. Degree). This will give you an idea whether the employer is keen on hiring you and thereafter scheduling an interview with you.

  1. Researching of Companies

While attending any job fairs, always ask, and be curious about the various job positions the companies are hiring into (even those not advertised). This is the perfect time for you to get to know the direct human resources and hiring manager contact information, which could help you in your future job applications.

  1. Testing of Market

Visiting of the different company booths at the career fair allows you more insight into job market and the salary ranges employers are willing to pay for the more popular jobs. This way, you are more prepared for interviews as well. Moreover, you can enquire about other job openings/internships which may be available soon.

After hearing about some ways you might benefit from a Career Fair, it’s time to consider heading down to one! If you’re lucky enough, you might just land yourself an interview slot.
