This role is focused on developing direct to consumer, video on demand/streaming products. Working closely with a team of engineers, designers and UX researchers, the product manager will focus on ensuring market fit, improving the user experience and optimizing the customer journey, from acquisition to retention.
The ideal candidate will have technical product management experience utilizing user-centric product management best practices (Agile/Scrum/Lean) and will be adept at managing work in a fast-paced, corporate environment with many stakeholders. The ability to use data to make decisions, devise hypotheses and run experiments is absolutely crucial.
Identify core business requirements from internal stakeholders for video and media needs to build and operate a high performing on-demand video and media hosting/delivery environment.
Be able to make a link between what users do and how the company makes money and be able to articulate the business model and relate decisions back to it.
Provide leadership in researching new technologies and products and benchmark against existing solutions to identify the best fit for users to seamlessly generate, edit, upload, share and distribute media to internal and external stakeholders.
Provide leadership in evaluating existing live media streaming/webcasting platforms, identify products and services that match business partner requirements and facilitate implementation/updates with technical teams.
Oversee implementations of these products/technologies and ensure high performing delivery of these solutions.
Review current and future streaming delivery platforms to enhance the performance of these services. Partner with other stakeholder teams such as editorial/magazine to identify opportunities for process automation, review existing asset management and delivery solutions, evaluate new technologies/products and make recommendations accordingly.
Lead in the responsibilities to provide high performance in the operations of these services with our providers.
Work with the IT teams and other stakeholders to enable network optimization tools/services such as a peer-to-peer solution that will maximize the efficiency and performance of streaming media to consuming audiences.
Ability to lead while dealing with ambiguity and can effectively cope with change. Can make decisions and act without having the total picture. Can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.
Experience in the media & entertainment industry is highly desired; especially related to localization, digital audio, digital video, asset management systems/platforms, and multimedia formats.
Expertise in defining and building a product roadmap
Experience with bringing together cross functional teams and leading execution in an agile delivery model;
Ability to influence stakeholders with diverse points of view
3 or more years of experience with sourcing and delivering high quality on-demand and live streaming video products and services.
3 or more years’ experience with cloud based media providers such as Brightcove, Vimeo, YouTube
Familiarity with CDN architectures (caches, origin servers, proxies, etc.)
Knowledge of digital signage solution products and operations (Tightrope, Scala…)
Good understanding of HTML5 based video playback technologies
Knowledge of multicast and peer-to-peer network technologies for media delivery.
Knowledge of video and audio codecs.
Knowledge of podcasting protocols and delivery solutions.
