TELCO StarHub has been honoured for its employee engagement efforts and named as one of Asia's top four companies to work for, while United Overseas Bank (UOB) was named as one of the leading community care companies in the region.
The awards were conferred by MORS Group - a research and development company focusing on Asian businesses - at the inaugural Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability (ACES) Awards held at Singapore's Fairmont Hotel last night.
Ms Chan Hoi San, StarHub's senior vice-president for human resources, told The Straits Times: "StarHub champions customer service to stand out in a highly competitive landscape. To do this, we need to attract, retain and motivate the best talent.
"We achieve this partly through robust development and rewards frameworks, as well as rich employee engagement."
The company, which employs around 3,500 people, said it also seeks to provide competitive remuneration and a family friendly culture.
It believes its strategy kept staff turnover at 15.5 per cent last year, lower than the industry and national averages.
UOB was another local winner, scooping an ACES award as one of the region's top four community care companies.
Its Heartbeat Programme, which supports art, children and education, is the driving force behind its efforts in this area, a bank spokesman said.
"UOB believes in supporting people who are passionate about what they do, from businesses that are determined to succeed, to children who are talented in art. We see the strengthening of these pillars of society as essential to a country and the region's social and economic progress," he added.
The ACES Awards also honoured executives for outstanding leadership. Super Bean International founder and managing director Kang Puay Seng was named entrepreneur of the year, while Asiatic Group Holdings chief executive George Tan and Leeden National Oxygen CEO Steven Tham were named among Asia's outstanding leaders.
