What do Lee Kuan Yew, Steve Jobs, the Dalai Lama and Mark Zuckerberg have in common? A workshop organised by STJobs on Monday, 16 April 2012, entitled “How to Gain, Train and Retain a Dynamic Team” revealed they are the four most cited inspirational figures for business professionals across industries as diverse as real estate and hairdressing.
Over 35 participants were exposed to a plethora of tips and tricks of human resource management, in areas such as recruitment and interview, hiring and training, motivating and leading, as well as growing and terminating. The networking opportunities and group discussions also facilitated the cross-fertilisation of industry-specific practices, giving the participants additional insight and perspective on how to train their teams to adopt a winning mentality that will help their company progress.
The draw of the well-attended workshop was in the ability of Rob Salisbury, who has over 35 years of experience in marketing and given advice to more than 500 organisations worldwide, to make the course material generic for universal access, yet specific enough to be applicable and relevant to various industries.
This struck a chord with Rick Wu, Senior Manager of Hoi Hup Realty Pte Ltd, who found the course “enlightening” and believes that “in every organisation, there is interest in improving management areas like retaining staff and building a stronger team.”
Chris Lui, a Recruitment Consultant with Capita Pte Ltd, reveals that his greatest takeaway was “an overview of elements to bring forth a more dynamic team”. He also had praise for Salisbury, who impressed with his smooth, engaging delivery and thought-provoking ideas.
At the end of the workshop, many participants expressed interest for future events and said they will recommend the course and share this experience with fellow colleagues.
