In what has become a classic scene in Hollywood cinema, Jerry Maguire (played by Tom Cruise) turns to his disgruntled client and spits in exasperation, “Help me help you!”

This was just one example of advice culled from a plethora of diverse experiences to help 10 participants out-think, out-sell and out-service their competition in a two-day workshop organised by STJobs on 24 and 25 April 2012.

Sales professionals, who hailed from industries as diverse as real estate, logistics and construction, were exposed to the secrets, shortcuts and subtleties involved in achieving peak sales performances and customer service excellence.

What Rob Salisbury - who has over 35 years of experience in sales and has given advice to more than 500 organisations worldwide - succeeded in inculcating was beyond a cursory analysis of sales strategies, how to close large sales and gain referrals. More importantly, he facilitated a fertile discussion and lively exchange of ideas between industry professionals of different ages, motivations and expertise.

This proved to be the most valuable takeaway for Thomas Tang, a Sales Manager with Steelaris Pte Ltd, who identified with the “exposure, knowledge-sharing and networking” that the workshop promoted. He went on to reveal the fostering of friendships with other participants and replied with a resounding “yes” when asked if he would attend future courses.

It came as no surprise that all of the participants interviewed agreed that this course will translate into tangible results and closed deals over the next couple of weeks.
