Associate Director of Video (Content Lab)

SPH Media Trust

Job Description

SPH Content Lab is looking for an exceptional talent to join our growing content marketing team as Associate Director of Video. Reporting to the Head of Content Marketing, this role champions our substantial video efforts, creating innovative and effective branded content across SPH Media platforms, Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook and more.

Leading a team of producers, you are responsible for Content Lab’s entire output of video projects in a range of genres and formats, including documentary-style films, motion graphic videos, explainers, animation and creative short stories. Our client list is diverse, and so is our content.

The role requires a strong sense of experimentation, adventure and playfulness. You must be an experienced idea generator who is passionate about developing stories that will resonate with audiences – always with an eye on the larger goals of the content campaign and how each video impacts the intended KPIs. You are skilled at writing and shaping narrative arcs both on paper and in the edit room, and have experience revising scripts and reviewing edits.

Content Lab works with an army of freelancers to bring our concepts to life – you run the show, on time and on budget. Experience with project management and overseeing many moving parts, assignments, and deliverables at once is essential. You must be able to work well as part of a team. A good bulk of your video output is part of a multi-format, multi-channel content campaign, so you will be collaborating with a larger group of editors, creatives, campaign managers and colleagues from our commercial unit.

A high-level knowledge of news and current affairs is necessary, as well as an understanding of how to present a unique take in a crowded content landscape. Must have a background in factual content and digital / social video production, and have the people skills required to work on-set with everyday folk, highly esteemed experts and celebrities.

The ability to thrive under pressure, manage intense deadlines and collaborate well with others is key. Experience managing projects, clients and your own team is essential.

SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise the entire creative process from treatment to final delivery, effectively working with internal stakeholders and external vendors while managing clients.
  • Review, edit, and approve preliminary and final treatments, outlines, shoot scripts, scripts, casting, production schedules, budgets, rough cuts, offline and online versions of all assigned video projects.
  • Ensure high-level content success to meet the KPIs of our campaigns.
  • Participate in or lead creative brainstorms.
  • Lead client pitches.
  • Manage, guide and train the video team with positive leadership, mentorship and accountability.
  • Develop actionable strategies for emerging video formats and social platforms to grow our content marketing business.
  • Foster relationships (freelancers, production houses, cast, etc) and grow the network and resources successfully.
  • Comply with media law and ethical guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 10 years of experience in a relevant role.
  • Proven track record as a visual storyteller. Must be strong with scripting and original concepts.
  • Experience in creating branded content for digital and social platforms is essential. Additional experience creating editorial, non-paid video content is preferred.
  • Experience working with different formats of video content is necessary.
  • An extraordinary gift for multitasking and meeting deadlines. Please be extremely organised and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues. Must be an effective communicator and always the solution-oriented adult in the room.
  • Experience in turning data and analytics into strategy and action.
  • Excellent English-language verbal and written skills. Proficiency in Chinese, Malay or Tamil is a bonus.
  • Strong industry network and access to freelance talent and production houses.
  • Deep knowledge of film, pop culture and industry trends.
  • Pro-active self-starter who enjoys a collaborative process. Must play well with others with an “all hands on deck” attitude.
