Commercial Specialist

Job Description

This position serves as an analyst and advisor to the Commercial Service (CS) American Officers, senior U.S. Government (USG) officials and client senior management in planning, organizing and implementing trade events, including trade missions, certified trade shows, individual company Gold Key visits, and in completing International Partner Searches (IPS), International Company Profiles (ICP), Business Facilitation Services (BFS), Initial Market Checks (IMC), Single Company Promotion (SCP) and market research projects.   

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Obtains market information and identifies industry contacts and appropriate decision-makers in local companies with the goal of making business matches for participating U.S. firms. 
  • Responsible for overall management of sector related trade missions and budget drafting as well as the appropriate tasking of Commercial Assistants.   
  • For certified trade events, ensures appropriate tasking of Commercial Assistant, interns, and contractors, reviews and approves one-on-one meetings and runs the Business Information Office (BIO).   
  • Maintains client records in SalesForce CRM system, meets Written Impact Narratives (WINs), Client Assists, and Commercial Diplomacy targets as assigned annually; and utilizes eMenu to manage events and client services.   
  • Recruits and travels to at least one Trade Event Partnership Program (TEPP) event annually either regional or in the United States.   
  • Prepares weekly highlights inputs, end of show and trip reports as required.   
  • Participates on one or more regional or global team or both.  Visits local trade shows and interacts with local multipliers (chambers of commerce, associations, etc.).  
  • Contributes to post website, social media sites, or other promotional tools.   
  • Directly manages, trains, and mentors at least one Commercial Assistant, providing clearly defined work requirements, and drafting a yearly Employee Performance Review.   
  • Coordinates closely with Officers to ensure meets assigned metrics, including counseling sessions, WINs, Commercial Diplomacy successes, and advocacy support. 

Job Requirements

  • A minimum 2 years of full-time post-secondary study at college or university, or other equivalent post-secondary education is required.
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in business, government or NGOs in the fields of marketing, trade promotion, economics, international trade or similar field is required. 
  • A thorough knowledge of Singapore’s economy, business customs and practices, marketing channels, laws, regulations, and policies relating to assigned industry sector commercial functions. 
  • Must have fluent, strong English oral and writing skills. (This may be tested) 
  • Must be able to develop and maintain an extensive range of mid and senior level contacts in the host government and private sector.   
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute complex commercial research projects and analytic reports is required.  
  • Must have the ability to render advice with detachment and objectivity, employing sound professional judgment.    
  • Competence in MS Office software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required.
