The Straits Times is looking for journalists with prior experience in news reporting.

As a Journalist or Correspondent with The Straits Times, you will file stories on general news, fashion, beauty, business, technology and environment among other beats. You will present your articles in an organized and interesting way to entertain and educate the readers. You will interview newsmakers, attend press conferences and major events to cover newsworthy stories and adapt them for the readers across all the multimedia platforms of The Straits Times. 

In addition to cultivating strong contacts in these fields, you need to be able to spot and analyse trends as well as look for exclusive stories.

Requirements

You need to have a keen interest in news and various beats like fashion, technology, socio-political news etc.  Also crucial are an excellent command of English and strong writing skills. Other key prerequisites include:  

• Degree from a recognised university with relevant experience in reporting. 
• Enthusiasm, independence, resourcefulness and the ability to work under pressure
• Good news sense with a good understanding of online and mobile readership and surfing patterns
• Ability to work both independently as well as in a team
• Knowledge of Internet, web and digital technology such as web programming, web design, digital interactive, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Drupal CMS is an advantage but not critical.
• Willingness to work on weekends/public holidays
