Financial Accountant

We are a General Reinsurance Company headquartered in US, and is a member of a publicly-traded financial services holding company based in Canada.  This is a mid-level staff accounting function.  As the Financial Accountant, you will play an important role in the Finance Team, ensuring compliance with Insurance Regulatory requirements and adherence to Accounting Standards.  You are primarily responsible for the accounting activities to maintain a complete and accurate general ledger.  Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will also be working closely with our Head Office in US and Euro division in Paris to ensure alignment of processes and reporting requirements.

A glimpse into the position:

  • Preparing and reviewing general ledger accounts, financial statements and complex financial reports
  • Preparing and filing of regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and adherence to regulatory and accounting standards
  • Responsible for investment accounting and preparation of investment reports
  • Preparing expense budgets and performs variance analysis and explanations
  • Prepares analysis, variance explanations and investigate inconsistent / unusual trends in underwriting components and financial results
  • Preparation and assistance of GST Returns and Corporate Tax
  • Prepares and provide financial reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support processing of Accounts Payables and Technical Payments
  • Assist in Bank Reconciliations
  • Prepares schedules for external and internal audits
  • Stay abreast of Regulatory Changes / Requirements and Accounting Standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Finance Team

 


Job Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or Professional Qualification in Accountancy
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting
  • Audit experience in insurance companies preferred
  • Knowledge of Insurance Regulations
  • Understanding of insurance business and knowledge of insurance accounting
  • Attention to details
  • Good interpersonal skills and you must be a Team player
  • High ethical standards and integrity
  • Excellent excel skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good analytical skills and ability to interpret information
