Head of Data Engineering

The Job

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering and working closely with the Software Engineering leadership, this is a senior role within SPH Media.

You will lead the department that serves as the centre of excellence for data engineering, data governance, and MLOps across SPH. In this role, you will manage Data Ops, MLops and DevOps teams to take ETL pipelines and ML APIs to production in a cloud-native environment. You'll provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to our data engineering teams, and have strong commercial understanding to serve as their link to the rest of the business including senior management.

Requirements

• At least five years' leadership experience in a production big data environment. Experience in managing technical managers is a bonus.
• Experience in growing and scaling data engineering and machine learning engineering teams
• Preferred candidates will have demonstrable experience in owning cloud-native machine learning systems over a period of time (for example: inference APIs, CDPs, leveraging feature stores, streaming data pipelines)
• Able to manage technical budgets and scale production pipelines within forecast bounds
• Strong fundamental technical expertise in cloud-native technologies
• Recent hands-on experience with BigData technologies such as Spark, ProtoBuf, DBT etc.
• Experience with AWS, and with tools such as AirFlow, Kafka, Docker & Kubernetes
• Resourceful and able to manage multiple complex and time-sensitive projects simultaneously
• Strong communication skills and able to work well with a wide range of stakeholders
• An advanced university degree in Computer Science or related fields is preferred though not essential. Production-level data engineering experience in lieu is more than acceptable.
